Faust, Romantic Irony, and System: German Culture in the Thought of Søren Kierkegaard
Faust, romantická irónia a systém: Nemecká kultúra v myslení Sørena Kierkegaarda
Abstrakt
Kierkegaard's polemics with Hegelism, his criticism of F. Schlegel's romantic irony, and his participation in Schelling's lectures in Berlin are well-known facts. However, these are only a few examples of a much deeper inspiration. Kierkegaard read fluently in German and was interested in many authors from the German-speaking world. Given his well-known criticism of the Hegelians, Schlegel, and Schelling, there is a temptation to consider him an anti-German thinker. However, the reality is different, because he highly esteemed several German thinkers, such as Hamann, Lessing, and Trendelenburg. The present work explores Kierkegaard's relationship to various aspects of German culture and a much deeper understanding of the significance of German sources for his thinking. There are so many intersections that we can argue that without the influence of German culture, Kierkegaard would not be Kierkegaard and the Danish Golden Age would not be a golden age.
