Time for private space and public space
Abstrakt
The book was published in collaboration with the Slovak Film Institute with the aim of creating a publication with interdisciplinary overlap. The philosophical – especially anthropological and phenomenological – stance on the topic of home, housing and other modes of human existence is intertwined with specific analyses of selected documents by Czech documentarian Helena Třeštíková. The book has two parts, the first deals mainly with the director's earlier work, describes the starting points of her work, the time-lapse film method and the way of looking at the everyday life of the filmed persons. In this part, the issues of home and privacy come to the fore, exploring the phenomena of intimacy, freedom, banality and other features of being. The second part deals mainly with documentaries that were created in a later period and in which the director visited various heterotopias, places that are not intended for human habitation, but in which the filmed persons live and experience borderline situations. Human beings in crisis, which Třeštíková captures over a long period of time and allows them to express themselves through the documentary, are a deep dive into human existence in its most authentic form.
