The Marburg Legacy: Neo-Kantianism from the Critique of Knowledge to Anthropology
Abstrakt
The basic theme is the analysis of the neo-Kantian theory of culture and the transition from the theory of culture to anthropology. The philosophical concepts that we usually characterize collectively as neo-Kantianism, both in their origin and at the peak of their influence, essentially determined the way of philosophical thinking at most of the elite European universities before the First World War. This means that it is hardly possible to fully understand the dynamics of the development of philosophical thinking in the 20th century without direct or indirect references to the thinkers of the neo-Kantian schools. The core of the neo-Kantian concept of culture is usually considered to be the theory of knowledge, which was understood as a “critique” of knowledge, that is, as an analysis of the immanent – logical and categorical – structure of theoretical consciousness and knowledge. The monograph focuses primarily on a critical analysis of the neo-Kantian interpretation of Kant’s “Copernican turn”, on the problem of the relationship between subjective and objective, as well as on the problems of analyzing the forms of spiritual activity. The author seeks to prove that the problem of knowledge can be adequately solved only if we take into account the ontological, anthropological and historical-social dimensions of the cognitive process. A significant part of the efforts of the neo-Kantians was devoted to the philosophical analysis of the assumptions and methods of the sciences, both natural and social. It is here, in the interpretation of the philosophical problems of special sciences, that the representatives of the Marburg School most sharply formulate their arguments against naturalistic and positivist concepts of knowledge. The monograph on neo-Kantianism is a contribution to a better understanding of the dynamics of the development of philosophical thought in the last century.
