The first Slovak philosophical institutional scientific periodicals Filozofický zborník Matice slovenská and Philosophica slovaca SAVU were the object and subject of research into the history of thought in Slovakia and philosophical thought in particular. Both periodicals actively contributed to the processes of contemporary professionalization of philosophy (late modernization) even in conditions that were mostly not optimal for the pluralistic and free development of philosophical research (the effort to ideologize philosophy). Despite this, these periodicals provided an institutional space for the presentation of various schools of thought and currents, including from the field of research into the history of Slovak philosophical thought. The metamorphoses of development, which were experienced in particular by Filozofický zborník Matice slovenská during the decade of its existence, alternately meant an acceleration or deceleration moment for the development of philosophical research. The second editor-in-chief of the periodical, philosopher and sociologist Alexander Hirner, played an extraordinary role in ensuring that philosophy and philosophical discourse could develop and cultivate in our territory - paradoxically during the war years of "leaky totalitarianism" - in the relatively liberal environment of the Philosophical Collection of Matica slovenská. Under his leadership, a relatively extensive de-ideologisation of the periodical took place, the abandonment of monothematics and the prioritisation of the philosophy of blondelism, and the transition to a more pluralistic and open model of the magazine.
