The book attempts to philosophically and historically process the confrontations and controversies that have accumulated around K. Marx, first in the era of purposeful political "sovietization" of Marx, then in the era of equally uncritical "depreciation" of his work. Does Marx really belong "in the dustbin of history" or can he still help us understand the contemporary world? That is the motive behind the "probes" and interpretations of this book. The effort was to provide an authentic picture of Marx in a philosophical and political sense, balanced in a critical and interpretative sense. It was also an effort to competently reconstruct the main philosophical aspects of Marx's work, his concept of man, history, economics, capitalism, scientific methodology or ideology, and at the same time point out its limits. The book confirms the well-known conclusion that Marx's diagnosis of the time and the nature of modern society is relevant, but not quite its therapy. Nevertheless, the potential of Marx's ideas is not exhausted even today (it is enough to mention the problems of power, technology, commodification, intellectualization of labor, consumerism, etc.). Marx certainly could not have foreseen the dynamics of capitalism in detail, but, for example, the humanistic potential of his Theses on Feuerbach remains stimulating to the present day. The central Marxist idea around which the author's thoughts oscillate is this: Capitalism is a system that, through its development, prepares the conditions and possibilities for its own overcoming. However, it remains unclear "in what" direction the overcoming of capitalism could go, whether towards an alternative anti-capitalist system or towards some kind of post-capitalism, the identity of which would no longer be identical to classical capitalism.
