Osud a voľba: Max Weber o modernej spoločnosti
Fate and Choice: Max Weber on Modern Society
Abstrakt
The basic purpose of this work is to strengthen interest in the work of Max Weber as one of the classics of thought on society and history. Why him in particular? Why do we read the texts of Max Weber, Georg Simmel and Emile Durkheim? And why do we also consider some even older texts, for example those written by Karl Marx or Alexis de Tocqueville, to be important? The reason is simple: these thinkers saw the determining forces of modern societies more clearly than we are able to see them today. Much has become self-evident to us, and therefore also something inconspicuous - something that we do not see "because we have it every day before our eyes". The presence of "modern" society is so urgent that we consider all other ways of organizing social life as "backwardness" or an inability to "adapt". There is also another factor: today, modern society has learned to systematically mask the ways in which it functions. Back then, a century ago, this art of hiding one's own way of functioning was still in its infancy, and thus the principles of organizing the life of society were easier to identify. In this sense, texts written more than a century ago can help us better understand the world we live in today.
