Kierkegaardian Renaissance: Philosophy, Religion, Politics
Abstrakt
The Kierkegaardian Renaissance is the period name for a great wave of interest in Kierkegaard's thought in the German-speaking world in the first half of the 20th century. During this period, the German cultural environment was characterized by extraordinary creativity. The cultural boom took place against the backdrop of major political and social changes. Deep crises triggered a cultural movement that was a resistance to political leveling and a search for an answer to the demise of the old world. Reading Kierkegaard was part of the intellectual coming to terms with the social dramas and spiritual initiatives that determined the character of the era. An intense discourse on Kierkegaard's thought was sparked in the work of a broad and ideologically diverse group of philosophers, theologians, psychologists, and writers. The book maps the basic lines of this discourse and focuses on the reception of Kierkegaard's ideas in the work of seven central representatives of the Kierkegaardian Renaissance: T. Haecker, C. Schmitt, K. Jaspers, M. Heidegger, M. Buber, R. Guardini and T. W. Adorno. It focuses mainly on the reception of philosophical, religious and socio-political motifs. The lively German discourse had a great response abroad and significantly contributed to Kierkegaard becoming the philosopher of global importance as we know him today.
