Abstrakt
The monograph comprehensively maps the debate between semantic minimalism, indexicalism and contextualism on the issue of determining the meaning of sentences by the context of their use. It presents a concept that can be called minimal indexicalism, according to which each component of the expressed content must be the value of a lexical unit in the sentence, but at the same time some lexical units are not explicitly apparent at the surface level of the sentence, but occur only at the level of logical form, which can be revealed by logical-syntactic analysis. A syntactic theory is formulated here, which is intended to defend the existence of implicit lexical units, which in some aspects follows the tradition of Slovak logical and syntactic theory. It turns out that the supposed influences of context on the semantic content of sentences are not largely semantically relevant influences, but are exclusively pragmatic in nature and thus relate to the content that the speaker intends to communicate by using the sentence.
