Forms of ethics
Abstrakt
The collective monograph focuses on four models of moral philosophy, four forms of reflection on the essential-relational nature of human existence: the existentialist version of S. de Beauvoir's ethics, Ch. Taylor's conception of man as a self-interpreting being, V. Hösle's ethical conception taking into account the broader social, political and natural contexts of human life, and H. Rolston's environmental ethics. The aim of the publication (which can only capture a section of the entire spectrum of current philosophical and ethical approaches) is to contribute to clarifying the nature of contemporary ethical thinking against the background of the question of what ethics would be appropriate for our time. The authors try to show the uniqueness of the analyzed concepts in their approach to human ethos, their irreplaceability, and at the same time deal with the question of in what sense their complementarity can be considered. The result of the research is the knowledge that the analyzed concepts point to the danger of instrumentalization, both in the relationships of man to himself and to society, as well as to nature. At the same time, they are irreplaceable in clarifying the question of how today - in the context of current moral problems - to understand anthropological issues: S. de Beauvoir's concept with its emphasis on the ambiguity of the human situation forcing man to solve the questions of why and in what conditions he wants to live; Taylor's concept with its understanding of man as a being whose nature includes non-obviousness, and thus the necessity to interpret oneself; V. Hösle's concept with its thematization of the anchoring of man in social (especially institutional) and natural contexts; Rolston's concept with its emphasis on man's earthly nature as a member of a wider community of the inhabitants of the Earth.
