Fundamentals of Logic for Social Sciences and Humanities
Abstrakt
Logic deals with methods that can be used to distinguish valid arguments from invalid ones. It creates and studies formal languages into which arguments from natural languages can be "translated" in order to highlight those aspects that are relevant to the validity or invalidity of arguments. The book Fundamentals of Logic for Social Sciences and Humanities introduces the most important logical systems precisely as a theory of certain expressions that are used in arguments. With this aim, propositional and predicate logic (of the first order) are discussed and the foundations of some so-called non-classical logics are explained, namely aletic, epistemic, and deontological logic. The target group for which this textbook was created is primarily students and those interested in social science and humanities disciplines. The formal explanation of individual logical systems is therefore supplemented by an informal explanation of the basic ideas and the application of the apparatus of the given logical system to relevant areas of natural languages.
