On the philosophy of language, science and other problems
Abstrakt
The collection presents a representative selection of contributions from the field of analytical philosophy and related directions, with a focus on the philosophy of language, philosophy of mind, epistemology, philosophy of science and selected metaphysical questions. The publication brings together the works of leading Slovak and Czech authors, as well as foreign contributors, and documents the state of Central European analytical philosophy in the late 1990s. Thematically, the collection focuses mainly on questions of meaning, reference and denotation, the issue of proper names, the relationship between language and the world, as well as on epistemological aspects of knowledge mediated by language. A significant part consists of studies devoted to the philosophy of mind (psychophysical supervenience, secondary qualities), the metaphysics of identity and time (identity in Stoic philosophy, the direction of time, time travel) and methodological questions of scientific knowledge, including abduction. Special attention is deserved by contributions reflecting the work of Donald Davidson and his relationship to the analytical tradition and pragmatism, as well as texts addressing the boundaries of language, the plurality of languages, and the constructive role of language practices in the “creation of worlds”. The collection is characterized by a high degree of conceptual precision, argumentative rigor, and consistent anchoring in the analytical tradition, while at the same time opening a dialogue with pragmatism, philosophy of science, and historical philosophical concepts. The publication is intended primarily for experts and students of philosophy, especially those interested in the philosophy of language and mind, but it also represents a valuable document of the development of analytical philosophy in the Slovak and Czech intellectual environment.
