
The Gold Medal of the Slovak Academy of Sciences to Vladimír Petrík, the Medals of the Slovak Academy of Sciences for the Support of Science were received by Prof. František Novosád and Karol Kollár, the Prize of the Slovak Academy of Sciences for the Popularization of Science by Marián Babic, and the Award for Young Scientists by Ivan Lesay.
On Friday, 23 October, the Vice-President of the SAS, Ľubomír Falťan, at a small ceremony in the building of the SAS Office, received four SAS employees who had received high honors or other awards of the Academy and the chief secretary of the editorial board of the Quark magazine, Marián Babic. The ceremony was also attended by other members of the Presidium of the SAS doc. Eva Smolková and Miroslav Morovics. At the ceremony, the SAS Gold Medal was presented to PhDr. Vladimír Petrík, DrSc. from the Institute of Slovak Literature SAS, the SAS Medals for the Support of Science were received by Prof. PhDr. František Novosád, CSc. and PhDr. Karol Kollár, CSc., both from the Institute of Philosophy SAS. The SAS Award 2009 for scientific popularization activities for long-term popularization of science and results of the SAS in the journal about science and technology QUARK (ed. Perfekt) was awarded to the chief secretary and editor of this magazine, Marián Babic, who could not receive it at the June ceremony due to his stay abroad. For similar reasons, Mgr. Ivan Lesay from the Institute of Economics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences received awards in the Competition of Young Scientists under the age of 35 at this meeting. Laudations in honour of the awardees were delivered by Ľubomír Falťan.
Gold Medal of the Slovak Academy of Sciences for Vladimír Petrík
PhDr. Vladimír Petrík, CSc. is one of the leading Slovak literary historians and critics. In his work, he has been dealing with Slovak literature of the interwar period and its development after 1945 for a long time. He joined the SAS and its Institute of Slovak Literature in 1954. In his literary-historical works, he focused on the personality of Ladislav Nádaši Jége, but also on the views of the works and personalities of other Slovak authors of the 20th century. This was reflected in a number of studies, critiques, essays. He also devoted himself to editorial activities, where his achievements included the publication of works by Ján Smrek, Andrej Plávka, and the publication of an anthology of Slovak novellas of the 20th century. His authorial contribution to encyclopaedic and dictionary projects, in which he participated even after his retirement in 2005, is also significant. The work of Vladimír Petrík represents a significant contribution to Slovak literary scholarship in the second half of the 20th century.
Medal of the Slovak Academy of Sciences for the support of science to František Novosad
Prof. PhDr. František Novosád, CSc. He is one of the prominent and respected personalities in the field of social sciences. Since 1986 he has been working at the Institute of Philosophy of the Slovak Academy of Sciences and in his scientific work he focuses on the problems of social and political philosophy, as well as the problems of the history of philosophy of the 19th and 20th centuries. His teaching and coaching activities are also significant, as well as his translation activities. He was the editor-in-chief of the journal Filozofia for many years. His publishing activities include a number of monographs, scientific studies and professional articles in the field of ethics, analysis of the works of Heideger or Max Weber, as well as philosophical reflections related to the present time, with a view to the historical trends that Slovak society has been going through. He is also active in international philosophical structures. With his work, as well as his pedagogical and training activities, he significantly influences the education of the new generation of philosophers in Slovakia.
Medal of the Slovak Academy of Sciences for the support of science to Karol Kollár
PhDr. Karol Kollár, CSc. has been working at the Institute of Philosophy of the Slovak Academy of Sciences since 1978. He focused his scientific work on Slovak philosophical, sociological and political science thinking at the end of the 19th century and in the first half of the 20th century. He focused on the flow of thought in this period and on the intersections between the disciplines of sociology, philosophy and political science. The second level monitored in his scientific work is the phenomenon of nation and nationalism, especially in the period of post-communist transformation in Slovak and Central European contexts. From his rich publishing activities, studies and a monograph dedicated to Milan Hodža deserve attention, as well as a share in the collective monograph Philosophy in Slovakia in the 20th Century. His editorial and organisational work at the Institute of Philosophy of the Slovak Academy of Sciences and his work in elected bodies of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (Committee of the Council of Scientists of the Slovak Academy of Sciences and later the Committee of the Assembly of the Slovak Academy of Sciences) are also significant. His scientific and pedagogical activities are also indispensable.
SAS Award 2009 for scientific and popularization activities to Marián Babica
The magazine QUARK – a magazine about science and technology is published by the Perfekt, a.s. publishing house in cooperation with the Slovak Academy of Sciences. On its website, it brings information about the latest knowledge from various scientific fields in our country and in the world. In its individual editions, it brings information, but also interviews of Slovak science and research. The SAS Award for Marián Babic is an award for his purposeful approach to the popularization of Slovak science.
Awards in the Young Scientists’ Competition for Ivan Lesay
Mgr. Ivan Lesay, MA works at the Institute of Economics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. He received the award for a set of works focused on the issue of pension reforms in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. The international ideological-economic-political context of pension reforms is crucial in the research.
