The Institute of Philosophy of the Slovak Academy of Sciences invites you to two lectures dedicated to the history and present of the Uyghur region of China, which will be delivered on October 8, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in room No. 94 on the 4th floor (Klemensova 19, Bratislava).
Chris Hann from the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology in Halle will give a lecture on “The Chinese Civilizational State in Inner Asia: From Continental Empire to Nationalizing Superpower”.
Ildikó Bellér-Hann from the University of Copenhagen will give a lecture „The Wang Dynasty in the Qumul Oasis and the Disneyfication of Uyghur Cultural Heritage“.
The lectures are part of the international project Cosmopolitanism and Tianxia: Toward the Shared Grounds of Mutually Beneficial and Respectful Understanding in Global Political Thought (SAS-NSTC-JRP-2025-07).
