Jon Stewart Has a New Book Out!

“Kierkegaard’s Journals, Notebooks, and Papers” is now available from Cambridge University Press. In this new volume, Jon “the unstoppable” Stewart (Filozofický ústav SAV) – a renowned and internationally respected philosopher – explores one of the least known yet most fascinating aspects of Søren Kierkegaard’s intellectual legacy.

The book examines Kierkegaard’s extensive unpublished Nachlass – a vast collection of journals, notebooks, loose papers, drafts, reading notes, lecture notes, reflections, and autobiographical writings that remained after his death. Although these materials are fundamental for understanding Kierkegaard’s thought, they have long remained relatively unfamiliar, particularly outside Denmark.

Stewart demonstrates that Kierkegaard’s posthumous writings are not merely supplementary documents but valuable philosophical texts in their own right. At the same time, they provide essential context for interpreting Kierkegaard’s published works and offer unique insights into the development of his philosophical ideas, working methods, and intellectual world.

Published as part of the Elements in the Philosophy of Søren Kierkegaard series by Cambridge University Press, the book makes this remarkable body of material accessible to an international audience of scholars and readers interested in Kierkegaard and the history of philosophy.

We are immensely proud that Jon Stewart is a member of the Institute of Philosophy of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. His outstanding scholarship and continued international success bring great recognition not only to our institute but also to Slovak academia. We sincerely congratulate him on this remarkable achievement and look forward to many more inspiring publications in the future.
