V Smoleniciach sa uskutočnil workshop The Religious Context of Natural Philosophy.

The workshop is part of the ESF project for the humanities FROM NATURAL PHILOSOPHY TO SCIENCE. The event, devoted to various aspects of natural philosophy, e.g. the exegesis of the Bible and mathematics in the Jesuit order in the 16th and 17th centuries, but also the relationship between Laplace and Newton in the context of Catholic and Protestant institutions, was attended by leading experts from Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Great Britain, Finland, Austria, but also from the USA. The expert guarantor of the event was Dr. Cees Leijenhorst from Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen, the Netherlands, who, together with Prof. Tatiana Sedová, is a member of the Steering Committee for the ESF NPHS program. The workshop, which took place in a lively and working atmosphere, brought new perspectives and knowledge on the relationship between science and the theological context in Europe from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance and the beginnings of the emancipation of modern science.

On June 19-20, all participants were thrilled by the magical environment of Smolenice Castle and appreciated the idea of holding a workshop in this place, whose genius loci enhanced the entire event – both its working part and informal social activities.
