The Institute of Philosophy of the Slovak Academy of Sciences invites you to a conference entitled “Radical Philosophy and the Radicality of Philosophy”, which will take place on 7 November 2025 in the premises of the Central Library of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (Klemensova 19, Bratislava).

Plenary lectures:

  • Michael Hauser (Charles University, Institute of Philosophy, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic),
  • Jan Motal (Masarykova univerzita),
  • Ľubica Kobová (Charles University).

Radical philosophy is a term used to refer to various philosophical currents and thinkers who are characterized by a deep criticism of the existing state of affairs, social structures, political systems and often philosophy as such. The radical philosophy movement arose more than half a century ago as an alternative to the analytic philosophy dominant in English-speaking academia, questioning its restrictiveness in its trivializing conception of philosophy as linguistic analysis, and criticizing its reduction of philosophy to a strictly academic discipline without any emancipatory and transformative ambitions. Contemporary radical philosophy attempts to uncover the hidden assumptions and power mechanisms that shape our thinking and actions. Radical philosophy is also about the constructive search for new ways of thinking and acting.

The conference is held as part of the VEGA project No. 2/0110/24: “The Tasks of Political Philosophy in the Context of the Anthropocene II”.
