Richard Stahel on a research stay in Norway at the Arctic University

In the period from 12/10/2026 to 22/10/2026, doc. Mgr. Richard Stahel, PhD., participated in a research stay at UiT (The Arctic University of Norway), Tomsø, Norway as part of the project “Anthropocene, Limits and Sustainability”, supported by the Open Mobility Grant SAS program (No. 1042).

The aim of the project is to identify and analyze anthropological, epistemological and political-normative limits in the context of the transition from the Holocene to the Anthropocene. The project responds to the fact that humanity continues to persist in institutions, practices and ways of thinking that were formed and functioned under the conditions of the Holocene, characterized by relative climatic and planetary stability. The focus is on the question of why recognizing a complex network of interconnected limits is a necessary prerequisite for recognizing them and then rethinking the ways of human existence and functioning of society in conditions of increasing planetary uncertainty.

An important benefit of the research stay was a meeting with the head of the Department of Philosophy and First Semester Studies, Dr. Melina Duarte, with whom doc. Mgr. Richard Stahel, PhD. discussed the possibility of project and publication cooperation, as well as the possibility of institutional cooperation in the form of a memorandum of understanding and an agreement on the exchange of students and researchers.

On 21/10/2026, doc. Mgr. Richard Stahel, PhD., gave a lecture entitled “Anthropocene and Environmental Democracy”, which opened a stimulating discussion and created a space for the exchange of expert opinions and experiences in the field of environmental democracy and current environmental challenges.
