Recognition and inspiration were the main motto of the award of top publications of the SAS for 2024. The event took place on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at the Small Congress Center of the SAS Science Publishing House in Bratislava. The awarded scientists received the awards from the hands of the President of the SAS, Martin Venhart, and the Vice-President of the SAS for Science, Research and Innovation, Tomáš Hromádka. The results of the long, consistent and systematic work of individuals and teams were awarded in the following categories: Top Journal Publications, Nature Index Publications, Top Scientific Monographs and Publications in Journals Included in the Norwegian Register.
“The award of top publications is a typical event that shows that the present and the future are based on cutting-edge science. I am glad that we have gathered here to honour the best,” said the President of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, Martin Venhart, in his ceremonial speech, reminding that the Slovak Academy of Sciences has had a difficult period. “I would never have thought that we would have to prove the elementary pillars of science, and at the same time, as an institution, we have never felt such public support – also thanks to your work, which is an inspiration for others,” emphasized the President of the SAS.
Vice-President of the SAS for Science, Research and Innovation, Tomáš Hromádku, emphasized that this is a very “young” event that does not yet have its tradition. “Former Vice-President of the SAS Peter Samuely, the author of the idea of awarding top publications, knew why it is important to award people whose work proves that the SAS is good, that quality research is done here and that there is a lot to choose from when awarding,” Tomáš Hromádka explained the history of the event, which has been held since 2017, and expressed his belief that the event certainly has a future. “The SAS still has a lot to show and there is a lot to choose from,” he said, wishing the awardees, among other things, greater competition, which always moves science forward.
