The Institute of Philosophy of the Slovak Academy of Sciences invites you to the event “Vivat Scientia! Long live science!”, which will take place on the topic “Anthropocene, where do we go wrong?” on September 29, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. in the Lučenec Municipal Museum.
Man has become a force capable of changing the climate, landscape and geological processes of the entire planet. But how does today’s extremely rapid climate change differ from the great changes in the history of the Earth?
The following will discuss:
- geologist and geochemist Pavol Siman;
- philosopher and director of the institute Richard Stahel (Institute of Philosophy of the Slovak Academy of Sciences).
The discussion will raise questions about planetary boundaries, endless growth on a finite planet, and the possibilities of a just environmental democracy. The planet will continue without us, but can we change the conditions in which we live on it in time?
